Because there is a Gadget involved that's basically a lens, you are required to find 7 Hidden Symbols located within the entire scene, using the Magic Amulet. Spirits of Mystery: Whisper of the Past took me over four hours to complete and the bonus chapter took me another hour, so at least the game makes up with its above average length. I had fairly much burned out on the series but decided to give this game a try, and although there are some mixed reviews on the game I actually think this game is better than several of the previous games. I enjoyed the mini games, several were very different Arctic Story the usual in games. I enjoyed the storyline and the gameplay, even the gimmicky Song of the Moon looking glass was still fun to use. Personally, I didn't hate or even dislike this game, it was exactly as Mydtery: suspected, a take-it-or-leave-it kinda game. Additionally, the well-crafted animations and cutscenes are also effective at maintaining the sense of suspense and urgency. I won't tell about the story line since other comments here told about that. Whisper of the Past is a great improvement, IMHO, over some of the more recent games in the series and although we have the smoky cloaked Dark Reapers the tone of the game is not as dark as the past four games. God Bless and Merry Christmas to all. To my surprise, I actually found myself fairly intrigued by this twelfth sequel. A non-magical Scythe or Sickle would have tackled the weeds just as easily and never needs to be recharged, but I'm sure they would require gloves, a new handle, oil to remove the rust and a whetstone to sharpen them, right? I have been playing the game for over four hours and have only stopped to write this review. Some of the more complex puzzles are available in Sable Maze: Forbidden Garden Collectors Edition Casual or Hard Mode of difficulty, but for the most part, they are solvable on the first attempt.

Also, I found the hidden object games filled with interesting and clearly identifiable items, the mini games were well designed even if I don't like mini games It's been a long time since I've been impressed by development to detail and quality of design in a game. Therefore, the game becomes frustrating to play; also too many puzzles interrupt the flow of the story. A choice of a helper for those of us who really enjoy these cute little additions to the games. I happen to like games that have a magical item to find things with, and this one has a mirror to find symbols that are hidden. I would prefer more HOS than puzzles and would like to see more of a balance. I did run into a glitch with one of the cards not being available in the 3rd chapter, inside the tree that you heal.
